Personalized Comfort in Sustainable Living
The Alhuda Foundation partnered with the community and Ball State University Interior Design Department to create the new Mosque located in Fishers, Indiana. The beginning of this journey began in 2016 when the Board of Trustees for Alhuda Foundation proposed creating a new community center for the growing Muslim population in Fishers. This project was a long-time hope for all the community members who were looking for a larger prayer area, a social gathering space, and a gym for activities. The Board of Trustees decided to engage the community in the design and construction process by designating the management of the project to a committee that took over planning and supervision.
In June 2016, Adnan Masoud, who was the president of the Board of Directors for the construction committee for Alhuda, contacted Shireen Kanakri to lead this project. In August of 2016, the senior Ball State students in the interior design Studio 5 class were introduced to the project. The partnership between Ball State Immersive Learning and the Alhuda Foundation lead to the completion of this monumental site. The Studio 5 class was lead by Shireen Kanakri and involved 17 students working in groups using evidence based design and community feedback to drive their concepts. In the spring of 2017 two proposed projects were selected from the Ball State Students and were sent to KrM design company to apply codes and produce construction documents. In 2019 ground was broken to start the Mosque and then in 2021 the building was completed and the community began using the space.
